Why does Insights freeze when I analyze data?

The following reasons may be the cause of the software freezing

  • The computer is equipped with less RAM than the recommended 16GB.
  • Simultaneous loading many .loom files (5+) and / or large .loom files (500MB+).
  • Advanced Filter settings changed such that many variants (200+) are included for downstream analysis, e.g., Rare Variant filter changed from default 1 % to < 0.2 % value.

 Good practices

  • Use a computer with at least 16GB RAM.
  • Load .loom files one at a time.
  • Wait until automated data filtering completes.
  • Reduce the number of variants in the Advanced Filter parameters.
