Which cell-counting method should I use?

  • Updated

Mission Bio recommends using either automated cell counters, such as Countess III, or manual counting.

Automated cell counters used by our customers

  • Countess I, II, III (Thermo Fisher)
  • TC-20 (Bio-Rad)
  • Vi-CELL (Beckman Coulter)
  • Cellometer (Nexcelom)
  • Luna (Thermo Fisher)
  • Scepter (Millipore)

Alternatively, cells may be counted manually using a hemocytometer and inverted microscope.

Note: When using automated cell counters, ensure that the cells are in focus to quantify the total number and viability accurately. Incorrect focus/contrast settings may lead to incorrect cell/viability counts.
